Drs Joanne & Christopher McKnight
Drs Joanne and Christopher McKnight recently joined us in Whakatane.
Both originally from the UK, Joanne and Chris have lived in New Zealand before, working as registrars at Hawkes Bay Hospital in 2010. They returned to the UK to complete their GP training, but missed New Zealand so much they decided to return. Looking for a smaller town on the coast, Whakatane fit the bill perfectly.
Dr Joanne McKnight MBBS MRCGP
Joanne took her medical degree at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, in northern England, and went on to complete a three year general practice training course in the same city. Her most recent position has been in a rural practice in Lanchester, County Durham, in the north east of the UK.
She has a particular interest in elderly care medicine, old age psychiatry and dermatology. During her sabbatical year in NZ, she held a senior house surgeon post in obstetrics and gynaecology at Ata Rangi, the maternity unit at Hawkes Bay Hospital in Hastings.
Joanne enjoys reading music, cinema and theatre, and after living in NZ developed an interest in skiing and sea kayaking.
Dr Christopher McKnight BSc MBChB MRCGP
Chris graduated BSc from the University of St Andrews in Scotland and went on to complete his medical degree at Manchester University. He has complete his general practice vocational training scheme mainly in Tyne and Wear, and during 2010, was a medical registrar at Hawkes Bay Hospital.

He enjoys most outdoor activities, particularly skiing and cycling, but also enjoys football, rugby, playing the guitar and reading.
