OPEN 7 DAYS

Hours: 8am - 7pm Monday- Friday, 9am - 6 pm weekends and public holidays

We cater for all acute and long-term illnesses found in general practice. Our centre has been endorsed by ACC as a Level 2 Accident & Medical Centre and is equipped to a very high standard with acute treatment bays to take care of most types of accidents or medical emergencies, as well as family health care.

Plenty of parking is available directly outside the centre, and a cafe is available for patients and visitors.

We encourage patients to register with one of our GPs for continuity of care. We run a number of nurse-based clinics throughout the week. These include well child clinics, immunisations, sexual health, diabetes, cardiovascular health, asthma, arthritis, smoking cessation, wellness (diet, exercise and lifestyle), women's health including cervical smears and advice on breast screening.

Dr Ralph Saxe FAMPA FRNZCGP

Dr Ralph SaxeWe mourn the tragic passing of Dr Ralph Saxe, GP and managing director at Radius Medical, The Palms, in an air accident on 23 January. Ralph was a very special man and a much loved part of our group. We send our love and heartfelt condolences to Joanne and all his family, and the team at Radius Medical, The Palms.

Ralph's contribution to the Palms and Radius Medical will endure; his personality and mana is embedded within The Palms.  He was a leader and innovator with great entrepreneurial drive, and a passion for general practice. Ralph immersed himself in the Radius community of practices and will be sorely missed.

A book of condolences is now open at Radius Medical, The Palms, 445 Ferguson Street, and online. Please send your message here.

cornerstone

Cornerstone logoWe are proud to be recognised as a RNZCGP Cornerstone quality practice. That means we have met the high standards set by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) which help make sure you receive high quality care.

weekend service

Our centre is endorsed by ACC auditors as an accident and medical centre. This means that on weekends and public holidays, emergency and urgent walk-in patients take priority.

If you would like to see your regular GP for non-urgent or non-acute health concerns, please make an appointment during our normal weekday hours.

sexual health clinic

Our sexual health clinic is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Please contact reception to make an appointment. Friday appointments must be made in advance.

This clinic is free to all men and women under 23.

antibiotics don’t kill viruses

During winter, we catch more colds and flu, which are caused by viruses. Antibiotics have no effect on viruses, so please do not expect a prescription for an antibiotic if you have a cold or flu.

Antibiotic resistance (when antibiotics no longer work) can result from misuse and overuse of antibiotics, so doctors do their best to avoid prescribing them for viral conditions or when they are not needed. However, if you are prescribed an antibiotic for a particular condition, please make sure you follow the instructions the doctor or pharmacist gives you.

test results

Often your GP will request some tests if there is a clinical concern. Most test results will take 1 - 2 working days, while some specialised tests will take up to three weeks. While we are not able to discuss your results over the phone, you are welcome to call us to check whether your results have been received.

  • The result of your test will be reviewed by your doctor
  • If there is a concern or follow up is needed, you will be contacted, either by mail or phone
  • If the result is normal, you may not be contacted
  • If you wish to discuss the results, please make an appointment to see your doctor
