Consultations

We value the time and effort you put into coming to the doctor. A little bit of preparation and planning will help you get the most out of your consultation with your GP:

  1. Think about what you want from the consultation. Do you want education, advice or counselling? Be sure to let your doctor know what it is you need.
  2. What are your main concerns? Tell your doctor early in the consultation, so he or she can make an overall assessment and work on a plan to help. If your condition is complex, you may need to book further appointments to cover all the ground.
  3. How does illness affect your life? This might include home or work activities, leisure time and family. Tell your doctor how your illness makes you feel, and about anything in your life that may be bothering you.
  4. Work through a treatment plan with your doctor. The doctor needs your help and input to put together a plan that will be of benefit to you. Remember to tell them about any medications, supplements, or complementary health treatments you may be taking.
