We cater for all acute and long-term illnesses found in general practice. Our centre has been endorsed by ACC as a Level 2 Accident & Medical Centre and is equipped to a very high standard with acute treatment bays to take care of most types of accidents or medical emergencies.

Enrolled patients with a GP appointment have the option of being transported to the centre by our free pick up van service which operates Monday to Friday. Plenty of parking is available directly outside the centre, and a cafe is available for patients and visitors.

We encourage patients to register with one of our GPs for continuity of care. We run a number of nurse-based clinics throughout the week. These include well child clinics, immunisations, sexual health, diabetes, cardio-vascular health, asthma, arthritis, smoking cessation, wellness (diet, exercise and lifestyle), women's health including cervical smears and advice on breast screening. A free sexual health clinic is available for people under 23.

We are proud to be recognised as a RNZCGP Cornerstone quality practice. That means we have met the high standards set by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) which help make sure you receive high quality care.

Vasectomies

Test results

Often your GP will request some tests if there is a clinical concern. Most test results will take 1 - 2 working days, while some specialised tests will take up to three weeks.

While we are not able to discuss your results over the phone, you are welcome to call us to check whether your results have been received.

The result of your test will be reviewed by your doctor
If there is a concern or follow up is needed, you will be contacted, either by mail or phone
If the result is normal, you may not be contacted
If you wish to discuss the results, please make an appointment to see your doctor

If you are concerned about your results please phone the practice on 354 7737, option 2, and talk to our practice nurse. If your doctor does order tests, please arrange to have them as soon as possible, to minimise delays and risk to your health. If for any reason you choose not to have the test, please let the practice nurse know as soon as possible.

What is triage?

At The Palms we see many patients a day, with all kinds of health needs. We use a system called triage to ensure that those in most urgent need are seen promptly. Normally one of our nurses will come round or you will be asked at reception to complete a form to tell us if you have serious acute symptoms, such as chest pain, fever, bleeding or a rash.
We are obliged to see the most seriously ill patients first. If your health issue is not urgent, please make an appointment before you come in, to ensure you can see your usual doctor, and reduce your waiting time.

Charges are for a standard GP consult of up to 15 minutes. There is an extra fee for longer consultations and all materials used are charged for. A surcharge applies at weekends and after 6pm weekdays. Please enquire at reception for charges for special procedures, medicals, and for non-NZ residents.

CSC=Community Services Card - CSC rates also apply to holders of a valid High User Health Card

The Palms X-ray

Digital x-ray The Palms X-ray offers the very latest in digital technology for x-ray imaging – the first in the Manawatu. These changes enable images to be sent electronically to computer stations at hospitals, specialists and GPs, making the whole process faster and more efficient.

Gone is the former bulky method of film storage, and images are now stored in databanks and can be retrieved at the touch of a button. Any patients requiring plain film x-ray imaging for trauma or other pathology can be expertly accommodated at The Palms X-ray, on referral by a doctor or physiotherapist. A surcharge applies to all ACC x-ray examinations.
